“Is It Really Just Another Ordinary Day?”
This work begins with poetry as its foundation, and unfolds as a bilingual picture book illustrated using images generated with Midjourney AI. The final presentation is accompanied by sound design and a recorded reading of the poems in my own voice.
“Ordinary Days” portrays how a person may experience deep internal shifts, while outwardly appearing as ordinary as any other day.
As its title suggests, “Ordinary Days” finds significance in the sounds of daily life—these familiar, ordinary sounds become the most important part of the piece, perfectly complementing the atmosphere of the poem.
Since my drawing skills couldn’t quite keep up with my imagination, I turned to modern technology for help—specifically, the image generation tool Midjourney AI.
Through countless attempts, I gradually brought the scenes in my mind to life. But the process wasn’t exactly easy—after all, AI isn’t a mind reader. There was often a gap between my instructions and what it produced, so I had to constantly adjust and refine my prompts to get closer to what I envisioned.
I don’t believe that AI stifles creativity or takes away the role of the artist—in this case, it actually helped me reach the level of creative depth I was aiming for.
To reflect the symbolic meaning behind the poem, I used Photoshop to place the fish head on characters other than the main subject.
What I find most fascinating about poetry is that everyone brings their own life experiences into the reading—so each interpretation is different.
That’s also what makes art so compelling to me: the way each person’s unique perspective interacts with the work itself is not just a response to the art, but a vital part of the art itself.
